BioCredita using Trusticate RegistRy

About BioCredita and the Ekos SD Standard

Trusticate powers the launch of BioCredita, a new biodiversity credit program developed by Ekos, which is setting a new level for traceability and trust in the nature-based markets. BioCredita is built on the Ekos SD Standard that delivers verified biodiversity outcomes that are measurable, fundable, and reportable.

BioCredita makes it possible for organizations, companies, and individuals to invest directly in certified biodiversity conservation through the purchase of credits. Each credit represents one year of biodiversity protection within a specific, independently verified project. The pricing is transparent and is based on the actual cost of achieving the ecological outcome.

Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari, a 47 km² predator-proof eco-sanctuary in New Zealand, is already issuing credits through the Trusticate platform. Each credit is backed by verified conservation data and includes full audit trails to ensure financial integrity and transparency.

Trusticate: Registry Infrastructure for Nature-Based Assets

Trusticate is a blockchain-based registry system that is designed to meet the general needs of project developers seeking to issue and manage nature-based credits without having the technical capacity to build and maintain their own infrastructure.

The platform enables project developers to operate in alignment with ESG and nature-related reporting frameworks, without relying on legacy systems or fragmented data.

By integrating Trusticate’s customizable registry into the BioCredita program, Ekos is now able to:

  • Issue and allocate credits based on verified outcomes

  • Track the lifecycle of each credit from issuance to retirement

  • Display project documentation, field data, and independent validation and verification reports

  • Provide external stakeholders with verifiable, time-stamped proof of impact

  • Maintain full audit trails across every transaction and project phase

This is delivered through a user-friendly interface that requires no prior knowledge of blockchain technology from end users.

Why Web3 Infrastructure Matters

Trusticate is built on Web3 infrastructure (blockchain technology), to address limitations in traditional registry systems particularly around credit data integrity and auditability.

In conventional registries, credit issuance, retirement, and transfer events are typically recorded in centralized databases or spreadsheets. These systems has limited transparency, and records can be changed or removed without leaving an audit trail. This creates a risk in the voluntary and compliance markets, where credibility, proof of ownership, and third-party verification are essential.

Trusticate resolves this by writing every credit issuance and retirement event to the permissionless Polygon blockchain network.  This ensures that credit units cannot be duplicated, edited retroactively, or retired more than once. Buyers, auditors, and regulators can independently verify the current and historical status of any credit, without relying on internal systems or private data sources.

In addition, every document uploaded to the registry - such as verification reports, field data, or project documentation - is hashed, creating a unique digital fingerprint. These cryptographic hashes serve as unique digital fingerprints of the documents and are also stored immutably on the blockchain. Any stakeholder can later verify that a document is unchanged by comparing its hash to the one recorded at the time of upload.

Key features of this infrastructure:

  • Immutable: Credit and document records cannot be altered once published

  • Publicly accessible: Credit history and document hashes can be verified by anyone

  • Time-stamped: Every event is recorded in chronological order for full traceability

  • Credit-focused:  Issuance, transfer, and retirement are handled securely and visibly

  • Document-verifiable: Uploaded files can be validated using on-chain hashes

This infrastructure supports compliance with emerging ESG and nature-related reporting frameworks, including the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), where transparent, additional, and third-party verified outcomes are required.

Who Should Use Trusticate?

Trusticate is designed to support a range of actors in the nature-based credit ecosystem:

  • Project Developers who require a compliant, fully functional registry without the need to develop internal systems

  • Standard Setters looking to operationalize new methodologies with a flexible and auditable digital infrastructure

  • Resellers who need to manage and track credit provenance with full transparency

  • Corporate Buyers and Investors seeking sustainability assets with verifiable and immutable proof of impact

The platform is built to reduce administrative burden while in the same time increasing visibility, integrity, and market trust.

Next Steps

Organizations working in biodiversity, carbon, or other nature-based finance sectors are invited to explore how Trusticate can meet their registry needs. The platform is available for white-label use, pilot projects, or full-scale crediting programs.
